Český Krumlov

Just before arriving in Český Krumlov, we were treated to this magical light, perhaps foreshadowing of how stupid pretty our next 24 hours would be.

Český Krumlov, stupid pretty. A view from the castle tower that overlooks town. It is a small town on a bend in the Vitava, with the town built on winding streets and a little island in the middle of the river. The old town is completely preserved, it's like a living fairytale museum.

Hot gluhwein at dusk.

With trdelnik, a sweet dough rotisseried on broad steel rollers, dusted with walnuts, cinnamon and sugar.

We climbed up to the gardens above the castle for a night view.

Are you kidding? The Czech runs deep in Joe.

Woke up early the next morning to explore the town in the morning light before breakfast.

Who loves pensione breakfasts? Joe does. This one included fresh donuts.

Pensione Katka.

This photo reminds Les of paintings of the town done in the early 1900's by Egon Schiele and his peers.

Many shops have nice iron work depicting their trade.

More vepřo-knedlo-zelo, along with the delicious local Eggenberg beer.

Les had a big potato pancake with smoked pork slices. We both agreed to cut back on the pork after this meal. While we both love pork belly, we don't want pork belly.

Headed southwest in the afternoon to explore more of Bohemia, this time the Sumava Forest.
